Avian Flu

Avian influenza

It is more serious than people think.
In 1968/1969, for example, it killed 5 million people across the world.
This time around, people are much much less healthy and it will kill 950 million.
It will infect 2,070 million people, one third of the world population, being those who eat chicken.
You catch it from eating dead chicken.
But, once you have it, it can be transmitted via bodily fluids.
The virus from the dead chicken that you have eaten lives for a long time,
you may have eaten a chicken 5 years ago and still catch the disease now.
It started in China, Canada and Malaysia, but every country where people eat chicken will be affected.
The strain coming up is called A(H7N9).
Aside from the people who will die, it will lead to viral pneumonia and multiorgan failure in 40% of others.

The amount of pain a person suffers will be the same as the amount of pain inflicted on however many chicken he has eaten during his life.

The symptoms are:

  • A high fever, over 39C
  • Aching bones, joints and muscles
  • Bleeding from the nose
  • Chest pain
  • Cold sweats and chills
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Stomach upset and diarrhea
  • Bleeding from the gums
  • Lower respiratory tract infection, which results in breathing difficulties.

  • The main problem is with breathing, and once infected this lasts the whole of your life.
